Field Reflection.

OPTION ONE – painting performance. Despite painting performance not being my first option for field, I have found that it has been beneficial overall for my work as a whole this year. Admittedly I have never really paid much attention to performance art and had always brushed it off possibly because I have never really been…

Development of Mind Box

An idea that I haven’t touched upon for a while is my Mind Box, possibly because I haven’t really had the confidence to believe that I could actually achieve something like this. But furthering my research for my dissertation proposal I have been inspired once again to really push myself out of my comfort zone…

The Gagosian: Richard Serra

Last Wednesday I went to London , heading specifically to go to the Gagosian where Richard Serra’s exhibition was taking place. Flying Lotus

Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama through her obsession with dots gives us a taste of what infinity is. She makes the unimaginable, unthinkable, something that we can begin to comprehend and in such a beautiful way. Using psychedelic colours, repetition and pattern inspired from her hallucinations, she creates an immersive environment that engulfs you into another world inducing…

Why Do We Get Bored?

The more I learn about this subject the more it seems to be pulling me in. I have been looking into the ideas of boredom, why it happens to us and what use is it for our brains? This video seems to sum it up all the key points.

Hypnogogic Imagery

I have done some experiments with paint and on different materials to explore my ideas of the expectations of the imagery conjured up by the mind when stimulus is cut off. Symmetry, and pattern is expected. There is evidence of this since pre-historic times. Such as on the masks/cave drawings etc.

Mind Box idea

Thinking about painting nothing, the whole idea of nothing has lead me to thinking about what happens when you completely cut off the stimuli to the brain. When there is nothing there, what happens? The idea of creating a box where you can enter and re-create this as much as possible, a mind box. Cutting…
